Hello everyone, and welcome to my firstLove Wave Art blog post. I'm very excited to announce that I'm off to Venice next week to exhibit at the Ca'Sagredo Hotel in Venice during the Venice Biennale 2026!
I was invited by Helena Safari, an art curator who found my work through my Instagram earlier this year. Since then we have collaborated twice, and this exhibition shall be our third collaboration.
I had to choose three pieces for this exhibition, so I chose 'The House Goes On Forever', 'Always There' and 'Seaside Sailing'. 'Always There' is the darkest piece I'm exhibiting, but it's about the fact that within the darkness there is always a path out to the light. 'The House Goes On Forever' is a meditation on the eternity within homes: a place always embodies the energy of the people who have been there and have travelled through. In this work the house is hovering above the ground to represent that the house will always be present in a place even if it is no longer physically standing. There's a bright happy dynamic energy in it, and that's reflected in the colours I've used in the picture.
'Seaside Sailing' is my representation of rolling down the hill as a child, there's a great swish of mound by the seaside. It's how the sailboat moves in a similar way across the sea, there's a childlike continuous freedom to it.
Connecting the three, in 'The House Goes On Forever', there's always energy in an abode. There's always energy brought from there to other places, the house is electric blue. The red is a propelling energy, a spark. This movement is carried forwards in 'Seaside Sailing': I would have dreams of flying, windsailing, paragliding through train station turnstiles whilst I was pregnant. It's about how easy it is to become immersed without a sense of time in childhood, and that limitlessness. In 'Always there' there are two people embracing, this embodies the window of light that is made possible through closeness. If this doorway is always there, then it is open to choice whether the people embracing will embrace this light and throw off the darkness which encases them. The three bring together rootedness, memory and choice.
I'm looking forward to the architecture and what these shapes will bring to my practice. There's a bittersweetness to visiting a city which may not always be there, but will eternally be held as a place where art has gathered - May Venice Go On Forever!
